Installation instructions to fast and safe upgrade your Uboot R55 (or other than R48) to the precious and flashing error free Uboot R48.

Nota Bene: It is assumed that you have already "upgrade" from [R48/Rxx < R55] to R55, probably due to Mitac R65 rom version upgrade.

If not you must first install a R65 rom of Mitac, that corresponds to your device language.

1. Download the Uboot_R55_to_R48_upgrade_tools_by_ansar.zip in a separate directory.

- Download link: http://rapidshare.com/files/196876539/U ... _ansar.zip

2. Extract the files:

- Readme.txt

- ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe

- ScoterUT_DowngradeEnabler.bin

- WINCEIMG.BIN

3. Check that your PDA is not connected to your PC.

4. Disable USB option in Active Sync by right clicking on its tray icon,:

- Select <Connection Settings> and

- Unmark <Allow USB connections>

5. Shutdown your PDA or remove and place back the battery.

6. In your PDA enter in the bootloader menu:

- Press and hold VolumeUP button

- Press and hold the Power button and when the lights will come up release both buttons.

- Press and hold DirectionalDOWN button and wait for the uBoot menu to appear.

- Release the DirectionalDOWN button.

6. In your PDA select option FlashROM Upgrade > UBOOT by USB

7. Connect your PDA to the PC through USB and wait a couple of seconds.

8. In your PC double click on the ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe and press OK.

9. In your PC select, in the image File 1 field, the ScoterUT_DowngradeEnabler.bin file.

10. Press OK and wait for the last ok! asking for a reset:

- In your PC you see the percentage completion screen.

- In your PDA all are very fast, but wait for the final ok!

11. On your PDA select the option watchdog reset and wait for the splash screen. Now you can remove the battery in order to shutdown your PDA.

12. Disconnect your PDA from your PC.

13. On your PC press OK to close the ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe tool.

14. On your PDA enter in the bootloader menu (as in step 6 above but you will notice the R5101 Magneto):

- Press and hold VolumeUP button

- Press and hold the Power button and when the lights will come up release both buttons.

- Press and hold DirectionalDOWN button and wait for the uBoot menu to appear.

- Release the DirectionalDOWN button.

15. On your PDA select option FlashROM Upgrade > Total img by USB

16. Connect your PDA to the PC through USB and wait a couple of seconds.

17. On your PC double click on the ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe and press OK (as in step 8 above).

18. On your PC select, in the image File 1 field, the WINCEIMG.BIN file.

19. Press OK and wait for the last ok! asking for a reset:

- In your PC you see the percentage completion screen.

- In your PDA now there are three main operations:

a. The Uboot upgrade

b. The MSIPL upgrade and

c. The WinCEimage R46 upgrade

- You will see many lines as

.......

No.1 image type:0x12345671

No.2 image type:0x12345672

No.3 image type:0x12345674

Before we update WinCE, we are flashing

Flashing , please wait ...

Verifying, please wait ...

Verify xx%

All upgrade ok!

Please reset your device [This is the final one]

20. On your PDA select: 7= Exit

21. On your PDA select: 8= Enter DeepSleep

22. On your PC press OK to close the ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe tool.

23. On your PC enable USB option in Active Sync:

- Right click on its tray icon

- Select <Connection Settings> and

- Check <Allow USB connections>

Your Uboot release will be UT48 and all the flashing problems related to newer Uboots will be gone.

You will also see the Extended Rom feature in the file explorer, memory and during *.cab installation.

The Extended Rom feature is implemented in all of my roms, inside XIP.

Regards, ansar

Hi,

We never flash total image by usb, unless we know what we are doing.

Can your device enter in boot loader menu ?

If yes let me know, if not use jtag or Mio service.

Regards, ansar.

Hi,

It is trivial to repeat what already said so many times.

Mainly R65 'Locks' the device in order not to accept other than Mitac signed roms.

It is also has bugs that can lead to an improper flashing, i.e. the flashed rom is not as that in the original file.

In any case its up to the user to decide what finally he will do.

Reegards, ansar.
